PROBLEM:-What is Use of prefetch folder in Xp?I read some where that if we delete the contain in prefetch folder login & log-out process get boost it became fast. Is this true?
EXPLANATION:- Prefetch folder contains .pft files which contain the execution segment addresses of many recently and most commonly executed applications in the main memory and on Hard Drive as well for faster excess to those applications..nothing in Windows XP is without any purpose..that folder has a valid purpose and that is to speed up the execution of most commonly used applications..if you delete it,it may boot the computer faster only a bit as windows will not know any longer that which applications it should prefetch as there would be no hint available..and as a result, you'll have to pay the penalty here instead of windows startup...as the minimal windows booting time will be compensated by the slow initial execution of your commonly used applications...and even if you delete this folder,it will be recreated automatically in SP2 and SP3 systems as it is necessary for good performance..however you can delete it to save a couple of seconds while booting and then you'll have to wait for much longer than 2 seconds while starting your commonly used applications..I would suggest that let it remain as it is i.e.
